HIP HOP - Gary Lopez, known professionally as G MERCE, is an American record producer, composer and songwriter. He was born in Queens, New York City and is of Caribbean lineage. In the early 2000’s while residing in Texas, he acquired an Akai Mpc 2000XL and that was when his hobby of making beats began to transition into other opportunities. He learned how to use Pro Tools to record local artists and his production work caught the attention of Cinematic Music Group founder Jonny ‘Shipes’ Shapiro while he was in San Antonio. On the set of a Cinematic Music Group video shoot, G MERCE was introduced to a local artist by the name of DRNG by a mutual friend. The two shared common interests so they went on to work together to craft a new sound, self direct and shoot their own music videos, which sparked interest from a Los Angeles based music supervisor. That lead to a publishing deal with leading independent publisher, Spirit Music Group. Their new sound would land in several national TV shows on networks such as NBC, ABC, and CW. They received local acknowledgment of their accomplishments in an article published by one of the oldest collegiate institutions in the state of Texas, The Ranger.
On March 3, 2020 G MERCE produced and independently released the first of his instrumental catalog series titled The Quantum Supremacy. The series is an ongoing experimental project with production styles from the past, present and future. G MERCE also received recognition for his talents in a U.K. based online publication, UKHipHopTalk.com, that gave positive review of his production work on the EP by Tha Keepaz on their Vice Therapy project referring to it as “an all time classic in Hip Hop music.” His following TV placement would appear in professional sports programming on the NFL Network. GMERCE would also try his skills in creating different musical styles and would find additional success landing his atmospheric composition work in a true crime documentary series which aired on NBC’s Oxygen. His work would later appear in a live sporting event in which a fighter entered the ring to a track produced by G MERCE on Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship TV in October of 2021. [ less ]
